I took the wire twist cup to the Skoda and while looks can be deceiving, it’s actually not that bad.
Land Rovers are easy, just replace the chassis with a galvy and worry no more. Luckily none of this is structural and should prove to be a few cut and stitch jobs done by a friend of mine, unless I suddenly have the desire to try and weld. Also with a few basic service items and a new coolant temp sensor it runs, idles and re-starts as it should! £45 for no more hot start issue and no misfire. The rear tailgate that we thought had rotted through because of the crunching sound it made was actually just full of crap and missing a hinge pin, so that’s a big bonus, and common strut tower rot is virtually non-existent.
Bonus haybale in the tailgate.
The rear crossmember may be of some concern but I’ll have to drop the bumpers and cut out the bad sections of the bed to find out more. I shouldn’t have expected any less for a £240 car. Czech pickups ftw.

Oh, that reminds me. I’m sure there’s rust everywhere under my FTO.
Too scared to look.

When I wonder how deep that rust goes I take out my wire and find out that it’s all the way.

Looks like the MOT might not be a train wreck after all.

I had no idea you had an FTO, I love to see them on the road. You should check the rust out dude, I left it too long on the Series LR and then had to bite down on a chassis replacement bullet.

I have a feeling that as long as it passed emissions it'd probably scrape through now, even though it looks like a bag of shit.

It was welded a couple of years ago and passed its NCT (MoT equivalent) last September to the surprise of my mechanic, but he’s spent several years being surprised by this...
Currently it needs an exhaust, the centre section having succumbed after 22 years in a damp climate.

Depends how friendly you are with your local MOT place. Mine is very fair.

I use my local indy for my good cars, mainly because they pick up on everything so I have a good idea of what may need doing in the next year, and whether I’m able to do it myself.
I know a dodgy bloke who would probably pass anything as long as it isn’t a total tub, but it comes with a £59 price tag.
